National Portal For Credit Linked Government Schemes

On June 06, 2022, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi announced the launch of ‘The Jan Samarth Platform. The PM took to Twitter to address the launch of the new initiative. As outlined in a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office on Twitter, the Jan Samarth Platform is a national digital portal for availing credit-linked government initiatives.

During the inauguration of iconic week celebrations held in the MOFA and MCA (Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs), PM Narendra Modi announced this initiative to easily apply for business loans under four major broad loan categories.

What is Jan Samarth Portal?

Jan Samarth Portal is a digitalized new-age initiative by the Government of India. It is an online unique single platform that links thirteen credit-linked government schemes. As highlighted on the official website of the Jan Samarth Portal – https://www.jansamarth.in/home

“The core objective of the scheme is to promote inclusive growth and development of various sectors by guiding and providing them with the right of Government benefits through simple and digital processes.”

With the help of this single platform, lenders and beneficiaries can connect seamlessly. The initiative’s main advantage is the quick application process by which a beneficiary can check their eligibility and criteria, upload necessary documents and process the business loan application in a few simple steps. A beneficiary can do all this remotely from anywhere with the ease of convenience of the beneficiary.

Features of the Jan Samarth Portal:

  • Facilitates a single-window facility that links 13 Government credit schemes with lenders.
  • As for now, only 13 schemes have been boarded, but sooner there will be more such credit schemes incorporated into the platform.
  • Consists of 4 major board categories of the loan, namely Educational, Agri Infrastructure loan, Business Loan and Livelihood Loan.
  • Provides a single platform to connect with 125+ lender institutions, including all public bank sectors, all at a single-window facility from which a beneficiary can choose as per their preferences.
  • Has numerous official digital integrations making the application process much easier and smoother between the beneficiary and all member financial institutions.
  • The lender will verify the eligibility through the portal, financial lenders will give preliminary approval, and the portal will send an application to the selected Bank.
  • Additionally, the beneficiaries will be updated through the portal at every step of the process without having to visit bank branches multiple times.

How does the Portal function?

The portal gives beneficiaries intuitive guidance for checking subsidy eligibility and offers a recommendation system that recommends the best schemes based on their requirements and credentials, using cutting-edge technologies and analytics. Digital verifications automate lending, making it simple, fast, and hassle-free.

Jan Samarth portal, a one-of-a-kind platform, has integrated UIDAI, CBDT, NSDL, LGD, and other services with its platform. As a result of these integrations, Member Lending Institutes (MLIs) and beneficiaries will have access to digital data that will be authenticated, reducing hassles. JanSamarth Portal’s automated rules engine allows beneficiaries to select options offered by an array of MLIS onboarded at the portal.

The portal facilitates real-time checks with national authorities for processing the loan application faster and more efficiently:

  • Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT)
  • Goods and Services Tax (GST)
  • National E-Governance Services Ltd. (NeSL)
  • Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)

Types of Loan Categories in Jan Samarth Portal

As of now, there are four main loan categories under which different credit-linked government schemes are stated. The loan categories are as follows:

Business Loan

A beneficiary can avail of this category for expansion and new business or activity under an existing business. Different schemes under this category provide various benefits in classification based on gender, type of business, and economic sector. As of now, six schemes are enlisted under this major business loan category:

  • Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)
  • Weaver Mudra Scheme (WMS)
  • Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY)
  • Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor Atma Nirbhar Nidhi Scheme (PMSVANidhi)
  • Self-Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS)

Livelihood Loan

Only one scheme ( Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM)) is currently enrolled under this loan category. The primary focus for facilitating the loan is to reduce poverty by catering financial assistance to the poor, especially women, enabling them to avail themselves of an extensive array of financial institutions or credit scheme options.

Agri-Infrastructure Loan

This section of credit schemes can be availed for post-harvest maintenance and agriculture consulting. Loans are granted to promote the development of the agricultural infrastructure of the economy; for instance, funds are provided for the construction of clinics and commercial centers related to agricultural activities.

Three schemes have been made available under this category:

  • Agri Clinics and Agri-Business Centers Scheme (ACABC)
  • Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure (AMI)
  • Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)

Education Loan

Loans are granted for pursuing studies in India or even outside India. The funds are granted for almost all courses to impart quality education to the nation, especially to the poor.

The three schemes under the JanSamarth Education loan have been made available under this category:

  • Central Sector Interest Subsidy (CSIS)
  • Padho Pardesh
  • Dr. Ambedkar Central Sector Scheme

Still, if you wish to avail the best business loan, NBFCs provide tailored business loans to small and medium-sized enterprises in India. The loans are devoid of the bureaucratic red tape that usually accompanies bank loans, and the application, confirmation, and disbursement processes are pretty simple. NBFCs have created a quick and efficient digital interface that reduces human interaction and speeds up the entire ‘getting a business loan’ procedure.
